Baron Ellenborough

Baron Ellenborough, of Ellenborough in the County of Cumberland, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, which is run by the family law.

Award

The title was created in 1802 for Sir Edward Law. This was a well-known lawyer, judge and politician of his time. From 1802 to 1818 he served as Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench.

The second Baron was after he had been Viceroy of India, raised to the Earl of Ellenborough, in the County of Cumberland, and Viscount Southam, of Southam in the County of Gloucester. The titles that were also in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, extinguished with his death, as his only son had already predeceased.
