Baron Heinrich Karl von Haymerle

Heinrich Karl Freiherr von Haymerle ( born December 7, 1828 in Vienna, † October 10, 1881 ) was an Austrian statesman and diplomat.

Career

Heinrich Karl von Haymerle, coming from an old German -Bohemian noble family, completed his studies at the kk Oriental Academy in Vienna, was following in October 1848, calling the Viennese students to arms, captured by the troops in the capture of the capital and escaped only through the intercession of Baron Alexander von Hübner in Field Marshal Windischgrätz the war legal shot.

In 1850 he was appointed Dolmetschadjunkten in Internunciature (Embassy) in Constantinople Opel and 1854 promoted to the third interpretation. In 1857 he was transferred as Secretary of Legation to Athens to Dresden in 1861 and 1862 in Frankfurt am Main, where he witnessed the German prince Congress.

After the peace of Vienna in 1864 he was sent as chargé to Copenhagen to establish diplomatic relations with Denmark again, and took part in the 1866 Austro- Prussian peace negotiations in Prague.

He then went as interim chargé in Berlin, worked in 1868 some time under Friedrich Ferdinand von Beust in the Foreign Ministry in Vienna, then at the Internunciature in Constantinople Opel and received in December 1869 embassy posts in Athens, 1872 in The Hague, where in 1876 he also was raised to the status of baron.

After he was again engaged for some time in the Foreign Ministry under Gyula Andrássy, he was appointed ambassador in Rome in January 1877. In 1878 he was third Austrian representative at the Congress of Berlin and was October 8, 1879 appointed to succeed Andrássy, whose foreign policy he continued.

In particular, he used the alliance with Germany and tried to keep the peace in the Orient.

The on December 19, 1867 closed with Therese, née Baroness von Bernus marriage Haymerles had two children: Maria Karoline Wilhelmine ( born October 25, 1868) and Franz Alexander ( born September 15, 1874). Franz Alexander was married to actress Liane Haid.

Honors

In 1894 in Vienna Ottakring ( 16th district ) was named the Haymerlegasse after him.
