Baron Jeffreys

Baron Jeffreys is a British hereditary title of nobility, which was presented twice and is named after the family Jeffreys.

Ceremonies

The first ceremony took place in 1685 in the Peerage of England under the name of Baron Jeffreys of whom George Jeffreys, a favorite of King James II. This was Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and later Lord Chancellor.

Jeffreys had already in 1681 raised to the baronet. Both titles extinct when his son died in 1702 without male descendants.

In 1952 the title was again awarded, now in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. George Darell Jeffreys was in the County of Southampton, elevated to Baron Jeffreys, of Burkham. Jeffreys had until shortly before the Second World War received numerous awards from the beginning of the century, most recently as General, served in the British Army and was then been a member of parliament for a decade.
