Barra binte Samawal

Barra bint Samaw'al (Arabic برة بنت سموأل, DMG Barra bt. Samau ʾ al ) was the mother of Safiyya bint Huyayy, the eleventh wife of Mohammed. She comes from a distinguished Jewish family, of the tribe of Banu Qurayza. The father of Safiyya was Huyayy ibn Achtab, a prominent opponent of Muhammad and leader of the Jewish Banu Nadir. Barra lived in Yathrib ( Medina ).
