Barren County, Kentucky

The Barren County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Glasgow, which was named after the city in Scotland. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located southwest of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 1,272 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Barren County was formed on December 20, 1796 from parts of Green County and Warren County. It was named after its treeless landscape.

Settled it was mainly through land grants to the former soldiers of the American Revolutionary War.
