Barrington Volcano

The Barrington Volcano ( German: Barrington volcano) located northeast of Muswellbrook close to Mount Barrington. The volcano, located in the Barrington Tops National Park, caused a 700 cubic kilometers of large basalt discharge, which covered a large part of Barrington Tops. Lava reached a thickness of up to 1000 meters. The volcano was active for 55 million years; the last eruption is 4 to 5 million years ago.

The vast rain forest in this area is growing on the many weathered red-brown soils. Gemstones zircons, sapphires and rubies were formed by the volcano. Adjacent to the Carey's Peak is a chimney of the extinct shield volcano is located. The area surrounding the volcano is covered by subalpine snow Eucalyptus forest areas, with rain forest at the end of the steep slopes and in the fire- free gutters.
