Barry B. Longyear

Barry B. Longyear ( born May 12, 1942 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania ) is an American science fiction author.

Life

Longyear studied in Detroit and in 1977 a freelance writer who turned to science fiction. Except under his name he also published under the pseudonyms Mark Ringdahl and Frederik Long Beard.

Became known Longyear with the 1979 story published in Enemy Mine (Eng. " You, my enemy "), which ( Nebula, Hugo and Locus Award ) won all major science fiction awards. At the same time Longyear the John W. Campbell Best New Writer Award in the Best New Author of the Year. The narrative describes the forced cohabitation of two soldiers of enemy races, which eventually leads to friendship and a sense of responsibility towards others.
