Barry County (Michigan)

Barry County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hastings.

Geography

The County is located in the central northwestern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is in the west about 60 km from Lake Michigan, one of the five great lakes, distance and has an area of ​​1494 square kilometers, of which 54 square kilometers are water surface. History

Barry County was formed in 1829 as an original county of free territory. It was named after William T. Barry, a U.S. Postmaster General. The county is one of the so-called Cabinet counties since it was like some other named after a member of the cabinet of U.S. President Andrew Jackson.
