Barry Gibbs

Barry Paul Gibbs ( born September 28, 1948 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player (defender), who from 1967 to 1980 for the Boston Bruins, Minnesota North Stars, Atlanta Flames, St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League played.

Career

As a junior he played for the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. In the NHL Amateur Draft 1966 he was selected by the Boston Bruins as the first player of the draft.

From the 1967/68 season he was in the squad of the Bruins. Since the Bruins, however, were very strongly held by Bobby Orr in defense, he played mostly in the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League. For the season 1969/70 he was discharged to the Minnesota North Stars, where he was a regular fixture on the blue line. This was also honored with the appointment to an NHL All-Star Game. After five and a half years in Minnesota, where he stood with the North Stars and once in the final series for the Stanley Cup, he moved in January 1975 the Atlanta Flames. From December 1977, he played for the St. Louis Blues, where he was team captain. In the 1979/80 season he wore the jersey of the Los Angeles Kings before the CHL ended his career after a further year.
