Barry Purves

Barry JC Purves ( born July 3, 1955 in Woodbridge ) is a British animator, director and nonfiction author.

Life

Purves studied at the University of Manchester drama and Greek civilization and was active as an actor and stage manager of theaters in England before 1978 the animated film turned to. He worked from 1978 to 1986 at the Cosgrove Hall Productions for Thames TV, and here created numerous television movies and series. Purves specialized in the puppet animation with puppets and came to Aardman Animations 1986. Three years later he founded his own animation studio bare boards, with whom he made commercials among others. Also in 1989 he released his directorial debut next, in which he every play William Shakespeare brought in seven minutes. In 1993 Screenplay followed in the style of Japanese Kabuki and Noh theater. For the eleven-minute short animated film Purves received 1993 Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film.

Purves dolls created designs for the film Mars Attacks!, But it was decided to make the film using computer animation. He was also involved in the animation in the film King Kong and had an advisory role in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. In addition to his work as an animator Purves is also active as a book author in the field of animation and is a theater director and actor, primarily on the Altrincham Garrick Playhouse in Manchester. Purves already presented many of his animated films at the Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart, where he was in 2013 alongside Daniel Kothenschulte, Jakob Schuh, Mihai Mitrica and Marie Paccou member of the jury of the international competition.
