Barry Stroud

Barry Stroud ( born 1935, Toronto ) is a Canadian -us- American philosopher and historian of philosophy, which is mainly known for his work on the skepticism in epistemology, about the philosophy of David Hume and the work of Ludwig Wittgenstein.

Life

Barry Stroud was born in Tonronto. He earned a B. A. in philosophy at the University of Toronto and subsequently received his doctorate from Harvard University, his supervisor there was Morton White. Since 1961, Stroud is a member of the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley, he was Chairman of that Philosophy Department from 1978 to 1981, 1984-85 and 1998. 1987 he held the John Locke Lectures at Oxford University. In 2007 he was Willis S. and Marion Slusser Professor of Philosophy at Berkeley.
