Barsebäck Nuclear Power Plant

F1

Decommissioned Reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant Barsebäck is a deactivated Swedish nuclear power plant. It is Barsebäck in the community Kävlinge in Skåne.

History

The land for the nuclear power plant was purchased in 1965 by the utility Sydkraft ( now E.ON Sverige) and the first reactor was ordered in 1969 at Asea - Atom. Block 1 was used for the first time on January 18, 1975 critical of Block 2 followed on 20 February 1977. The first reactor was first time in 1975 on May 15, synchronized to the grid, the second on 21 March 1977. Reactors were since July 1, 1975 and July 1, 1977 in commercial operation.

Since it is only 20 kilometers from the Danish capital Copenhagen, the Danish Government urged to turn off the nuclear power plant in the wake of the Swedish nuclear phase-out first.

The first block, Barsebäck 1, was shut down on 30 November 1999 and the second block, Barsebäck 2 on 31 May 2005. At the time of decommissioning, both reactors had a capacity of 600 megawatts. The nuclear power plant was owned by the Barsebäck Kraft AB, a subsidiary of the Ringhals AB, which in turn to the Swedish Vattenfall and E.ON subsidiary E.ON Sverige (formerly Sydkraft ) operated.

1973 came to a very authentic representation of a simulated nuclear power plant accident, the so-called Barsebäck panic.

In July 1992, however, there was a serious incident in Block 2 When restarting the reactor after an overhaul of a leak in the cooling circuit was created. This fibrous insulation was torn from the adjacent tubes by the flowing water. Since the outflowing water is pumped back from the bottom of the reactor, it came in the Seven before the emergency pump blockages and with time, the pumping system failed. Due to a temporary reversal of the pumping direction of the blockages were resolved after a few hours, after which the pump could work again with full power. The fact that the reactor had only been in the startup phase, arose during this period hardly decay heat.
