The Bartang (Russian Бартанг ) is a 133 km long right tributary of the Panj in the autonomous province of Gorno-Badakhshan in eastern Tajikistan.

The Bartang arises centrally in Gorno-Badakhshan at 2595 m altitude in the Pamir Mountains at the confluence of Murghab and Kudara west of Barchidev. To the west, it flows mostly within the Tajik National Park, after which it flows at 1979 m altitude in the Panj at Vomar. He separates the Jasgulem chain in the north of the Ruschan range in the south.

At the other, the western banks of the river Panj and thus opposite the mouth of the Bartang which is mainly fed by water from glaciers and snow melt, the border is with Afghanistan.
