Barton County (Kansas)

Barton County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Great Bend.

Geography

The County is situated near the geographic center of Kansas and has an area of ​​2332 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Russell County, Ellsworth County, Rice County, Stafford County, Pawnee County and Rush County.

History

Barton County was formed on February 26, 1867 from parts of Marion County. It was named after Clara Barton, an American nurse, teacher and philanthropist. She founded the American Red Cross and had not also great influence on the self-understanding of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
