Barton County (Missouri)
The Barton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 12,402 inhabitants and a population density of 8.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lamar, which was named after Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas.
Geography
The County is located in southwest Missouri and is bordered to the west by Kansas. It has an area of 1546 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water are. At the Barton County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Barton County was formed on December 12, 1855 from parts of Jasper County. It was named after David Barton (1783-1837), a U.S. senator from Missouri ( 1821-1831 ).
One of the best known citizens of the county was Harry S. Truman (1884-1972), the 33rd President of the United States, was born in Lamar.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Barton County 12,402 people in 4,949 households. The population density was 8.1 people per square kilometer. In the 4,949 households lived statistically 2.54 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 95.0 percent white, 0.4 percent African American, 1.1 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.5 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 1.9 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
25.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 56.9 percent were between 18 and 64 and 17.2 percent were 65 years or older. 50.7 percent of the population was female.
