Bartoszyce County

The powiat Bartoszycki is a powiat in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. It is located in the northern part of the province, where he is surrounded by the districts Braniewo, Lidzbark, Olsztyn and Kętrzyn, while in the north runs the border with the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast.

The establishment of the Polish- Russian border across the former East Prussia in 1945 divided the former counties Bartenstein and Prussian Eylau. In Górowo Iławeckie (formerly Landsberg in East Prussia ) is a Polish district was established in 1945, who managed the southern part of the former county Prussian Eylau. This county was dissolved in 1960 and combined with Bartoszyce to a common circle.

Communities

The district includes six municipalities, which are divided into municipalities, rural communities and Stadt-/Landgemeinden:

  • Municipalities: Bartoszyce ( Bartenstein ) and Górowo Iławeckie ( Landsberg in East Prussia )
  • Rural communities: Bartoszyce ( 10,807 inhabitants) and Gmina Górowo Iławeckie ( 7,449 inhabitants)
  • Urban and rural communities: Bisztynek ( Bischofstein; 6,887, of which 4,348 outside the urban area ) and Sepopol ( Schippenbeil; 6,713, of which 4,670 outside the urban area )
