Barueri

Federal State

Barueri is a city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, about 25 km northwest of the city of São Paulo, whose urban agglomeration it belongs. Barueri is part of the metropolitan region of São Paulo and one of the main financial centers of the country. Barueri is one of the richest cities in Brazil. In 2005 there were 265 549 people in Barueri 64.2 km ².

According to historians, the city dates back to a company by the Jesuit José de Anchieta in 1560 church and settlement. The connection to the railway network in 1875 brought a growth spurt. Barueri was up to independence in 1948 part of the city of Santana de Parnaíba.

Sports

Barueri Gremio Prudente had with starting in 2009 for the first time a club in the first Brazilian soccer league, the Série A. Grêmio had as basketball and volleyball to have success in sports. The club moved to the 600- km from Presidente Prudente to disagreements with the city government in 2010. The team played in the 2006 opened Barueri Arena, which initially had almost 17,000 spectators, 2007, 2010 the capacity was expanded to 35,000 seats. In the meantime, contributed SE Palmeiras from Sao Paulo, São Paulo FC and Santos FC in the Premiership season 2010 some of their home games here.

Meanwhile, was the Campinas Futebol Clube from Campinas, co-founded by former national player Careca transferred to Barueri and renamed Sports Club Barueri.

Barueri hosted some games of the women's basketball world championship in 2006.
