Barzana

Barzana is a municipality in the Province of Bergamo in the Italian region Lombardy with 1846 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Barzana is located about 9 km northwest of the provincial capital of Bergamo in Val Imagna and is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle imagnes.

The neighboring municipalities are Almenno San Bartolomeo, Brembate di Sopra, Mapello and Palazzago.

History

Until 1797 Barzana belonged to Ponte San Pietro. 1810 was combined with Palazzago. 1809 were counted 267 inhabitants. In the Lombardo- Venetian kingdom again independently, the census in the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy 414 inhabitants. By 1921, a continuous population growth is recorded at 643. With slight variations, the prior to 1951 (624) was almost claiming since then is a sustained increase recorded.
