Barzilla W. Clark

Barzilla Worth Clark ( born December 22, 1880 in the Hendricks County, Indiana, † September 21, 1943 in Idaho Falls, Idaho ) was an American politician and 1937-1939 Governor of the State of Idaho.

Early years and political rise

Already in 1885 came with his parents to Clark Idaho. There he attended the public schools in Idaho Falls. Then he returned to Indiana to continue his education at a high school and the Rose Polytechnic Institute. For health reasons, but he had to drop out of this study. Then he returned to Idaho, where he was in 1905 irrigation engineer. In the vicinity of Idaho Falls, he was involved in several irrigation projects. Barzilla Clark was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1908 to 1912 he was in the council of Idaho Falls and 1913-1915 he was mayor of that city. This office he should exercise again 1926-1936.

Governor of Idaho

In 1936 Barzilla Clark was elected as the new governor of his state. He took office on January 4, 1937. In his two years in office a new clemency system in Idaho was introduced, created some new schools, built a hospital for the cure of tuberculosis and the Ministry of Social Affairs ( Department of Public Welfare ) reorganized. In addition, new fishing and hunting laws were passed. The divorce law was revised and the trade of drugs has been regulated by law.

In 1938, Clark missed the re-election and therefore had on January 2, 1939 his office excrete. After he retired from politics. Ex - Governor Clark died in September 1943 and was buried in Idaho Falls. With his wife Ethel Peck he had four children. His brother Chase was 1941-1943 also governor of Idaho.
