Geographical location

The place is located in the natural park Eifel at the foot of Katzenberg's ( Natural Monument ) south of Lissendorf.

History

In 1262 we find the first recorded mention of a knight of Bansberg Theodoric, who was standing in the count's services and has been invested with a Hofgut at the foot of the mountain cats.

During the late Middle Ages Basberg belonged to the Counts of Manderscheid - Blankenheim those. In 1491 was when the then lord, Count Johann von Manderscheid - Blankenheim goods and property in Basberg as fief to Wilhelm von Daun. Among other things, the Prüm Abbey had a grange in this Eifelort. As Basberg came under Prussian administration in the 19th century, the place belonged to the mayor's Lissendorf.

On 7 November 1970, the hamlet was Lehnerath umgemeindet with the courts churchyard, Lindenhof and Peterhof together with 55 people of Basberg after Steffeln.
