Basciano

Basciano is a municipality with 2465 inhabitants and is located near Penna Sant'Andrea and Cermignano in the Italian province of Teramo. The town is a member of the Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba.

Geography

Among the districts ( fractions) are Sant'Agostino, Santa Maria, Zampitto, Tomolati, Feudo da Sole, Feudo as Borea, Pantane, Sbaragli, Villa Guidotti, Vallone, Pian Mulino, Villa Frio, Villa Ginestra, Villa Colle Portone, Madonna delle Grazie, Cretone and S. Rustico.

Borders the following municipalities: Bisenti, Canzano, Castel Castagna, Castellalto, Cellino Attanasio, Penna Sant'Andrea and Teramo.

The municipality is situated approximately 15 km from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo and 30 km from the Adriatic coast.

History

The territory has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. On the banks of the river Vomano the remains of a necropolis have been excavated. This also included ample offerings in bronze, iron, and knife. For further excavations part of that settlement was dig. It thereby ruins of a temple, inscriptions and pottery were discovered.

Attractions

Built as a remembrance for the fallen soldiers in the two World Wars Monument stands of the Municipal House in Basciano. In Basciano also have several churches that were built in the 16th century.
