Basel Historical Museum

The Historical Museum Basel ( HMB ) is one of the largest and most important museums of its kind in Switzerland and is one of five state-owned museums in Basel. The bulk of the collection is on display in the Museum of History in the Barfüsserkirche in the city center of Basel. Director since August 2012 Marie -Paule Jungblut. Institution

The museum houses the most comprehensive collection of cultural history of the Upper Rhine, and its exhibition area is about 6200 square meters.

The museum is an independent institution, its carrier is the canton of Basel-Stadt. It was created in 1894 from the 1856 Medieval Collection forth. Its origins, however, as the Kunstmuseum Basel, at the civic art collection of Amerbach family in the 16th century.

History

The mendicant orders of the Franciscans Built in 1298, the late Gothic Barfüsserkirche. Museum for home decor, home to the Cherry Orchard

History

The house on Cherry Orchard was built 1777-1780 for the " Bändelherren " ( silk ribbon manufacturer ) and Colonel Johann Rudolf Burckhardt. The house, whose architect Ulrich Büchel was regarded as the most distinguished citizens palace of Basel. After various owners, the house in 1951, was connected with the neighboring house, the little cherry orchard, set up as a living museum.

Museum of Music, In Lohnhof

History

In the city center over the Barfusserplatz, opposite the Barfüsserkirche, is the building complex of the medieval canons of St. Leonhard. Location and History

The Museum of horsepower, Merian Brüglingen gardens located in a barn of a former estate of Christoph Merian Brüglingen near Munich stone on the southeast outskirts of Basel. Buildings and grounds include the Christoph Merian Foundation. The museum was opened in 1981 as a carriage museum and fourth exhibition building of the Historical Museum Basel.

In the years 1837 to 1839, the Basel architect Melchior Berri prepared on behalf of Christoph Merian north of the manor house Villa Merian, in front Brüglingen, a tenant house with " farm building ". The original construction of the first large barn is burned down in 1905. The stately replacement building dates from 1906.
