Baselios Thomas I.

Baselios Thomas I ( Malayalam: ആബൂന് മോര് ബസേലിയോസ് തോമസ് പ്രഥമന് കാതോലിക്ക ബാവ, born July 22, 1929 in Vadayambadi, Puthenkuriz, Kerala ) is the reigning " Catholicos of India" and the third " Maphrian " of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church within the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch.

In his episcopal ordination as Metropolitan of Angamaly on 24 February 1974 in Damascus, he participated in the official name of Mor Dionysius. On 22 July 2002, the Synod of the Syrian Orthodox Church confirmed his election as " Catholicos of India." At his ordination on 26 July 2002 in St. Ephrem Monastery of Ma'arat Sayyidnaya in Damascus by Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, he received the official name Baselios Thomas I. On 31 July 2002, he took office in India. He resides at Mor Ignatius Seminar in Kothamangalam, Kerala.
