Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic

The Bashkir ASSR (Russian Башкирская АССР; Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic) was an autonomous Soviet republic in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic ( RSFSR ) within the Soviet Union. It existed from 1919 until 1991. Ufa, the capital was the region included the southern Urals and its western foothills. Since 1991, the area known as the Republic of Bashkortostan federal subject of Russia, however, the designation Bashkiria is still in use. The region has rich oil and gas reserves, also has copper, gold, iron, manganese, bauxite and lignite. Major industrial cities were and are Ufa, Sterlitamak and Belorezk. In the 143,600 -square-kilometer region about four million people.
