Bashtanka

Baschtanka (Ukrainian and Russian Баштанка ) is a city in the east of Mykolaiv Oblast in Ukraine. It is about 32 kilometers north of the Oblasthauptstadt Mykolaiv east of Inhul an artificial reservoir ("suns Reservoir " ) located. The railway line Snamjanka - Mykolaiv runs east of the village.

The city is also the administrative seat of Rajon Baschtanka and divided adjacent to the city proper or in the 3 villages Shevchenko ( Шевченко ) Selenyj Jar ( Зелений Яр ) Trudowe ( Трудове ) and the settlement Andrijiwka ( Андріївка ).

The town was founded in 1806 and was until 1928 the name Poltawka ( Полтавка ). At the start of the Russian Civil War here Baschtanka Republic was proclaimed. 1952 Inhulez irrigation system was put into operation, it created the midst of the place a network of reservoirs.
