Basil H. Johnston

Basil Johnston, O.Ont ( born 1929 in Indian Reservation Parry Iceland in the Canadian province of Ontario ) is an anthropologist and author. He is a member of Wasauksing First Nation, which is among the Anishinabe.

Life

Johnston first visited the Cape Croker Indian Reserve school ( elementary school ) then the St.Peter Claver 's Indian Residential School in Spanish (later Garnier Residential School ). In 1954 he graduated as a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola College in Montreal.

From 1955 to 1961 he worked at the Toronto Board of Trade. In 1962 he obtained the Secondary School Teaching Certificate of Ontario Teaching College and taught history until 1969 at the Earl Haig Secondary School in New York. He then spent 25 years working in the ethnological department of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. Basil Johnston is concerned with the cultural heritage of the Anishinabe (also called Ojibwa ) and has published several books on this subject.
