Basilica of San Saturnino

Begun in the 5th century Basilica of San Saturno originated in Roman Carales, today Cagliari. The Baurest of the former cross-domed building is the oldest church ruins in the Mediterranean area and was the model for the ( preserved ) Byzantine churches in Sardinia.

The surviving east wing of the former centrally planned building stands in Piazza San Cosima in Cagliari district Villanova. The completion of the church took place only at the end of the 10th century, when the building was around 455 AD, interrupted by the conquest of the Vandals.
