Even before the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart is the largest church Puducherrys. It is built in the Gothic Revival style and can be regarded as a simplified replica of Notre -Dame de Paris. What is striking is the powerful red and white color scheme of the exterior. The floor plan has the form of a Latin cross with a 50 meter long nave, a 48 meter long transept and a choir. The transept is crowned by an octagon. The south portal is flanked by two 18 meter high bell towers.
