The Basketball Arena is a temporary sports hall in London, which offers 12,000 spectators. It is located in the district of Stratford (London Borough of Newham ) to the north of the Olympic Park, next to the Olympic Village.

Preparatory work began in October 2009. After 15 months of construction, the hall was completed in June 2011. During the 2012 Olympic Games here the basketball preliminaries and the handball finals will be played. At the Paralympics in 2012, the hall is the venue for the tournament in wheelchair rugby and wheelchair basketball; the capacitance is reduced to 10,000 seats.

After the competitions, the Basketball Arena is degraded. It thus is the largest temporary investment Olympic history. The hall is to be installed at another site again. As a possible prospect Rio de Janeiro was named the host of the 2016 Olympic Games. However, local leaders gave this plan because they did not consider him to be feasible.
