Basketball League of Serbia

The Košarkaška liga Srbije is the highest league in the Serbian basketball. The Serbian Basketball Championship for Men will be played in the league. The national champion participates in the Euro League.

The League form two groups. In the first group to play all the teams who made ​​it into the league; except for those teams that play in the Adriatic Basketball Association ( ABA), the successor organization of the Yugoslav Basketball League YUBA. In the second group, called the Super League, playing teams from the ABA and the three highest placed in the first group. The four highest placed of the Super League then play for the championship.

History

The Košarkaška liga Srbije was formed in 2006 after the dissolution of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. Before that, the Serbian and Montenegrin basketball clubs formed a common basketball national championship, which emerged again in 1992 from the Yugoslav Basketball League YUBA. After failure of the Montenegrin teams the remaining Serbian teams were briefly the Naša League ( our league), to officially followed by the establishment of a Serbian basketball league.

The course of the season

The season in the Serbian Basketball League is divided into two sections with a subsequent play-off phase of the top four teams.

Phase 1 of the regular season

In the first phase the regular season come all fourteen teams both home and away against every other team, with the exception of this round each of those teams ( seasonally four to five teams ) that Serbia Adriatic Cup ( also known NBL Cup ) represented.

Phase 2 of the regular season

Known In this phase, also known as Serbian SuperLiga, is also played home and away against every other team. The round consists of the best teams in the first phase ( seasonally three to four teams) and the Adriatic League teams. The number in the Super League is limited to eight teams.

Play-offs

In the play-offs the best four teams in the second phase to occur, in the two semi-finals in the best-of -three mode, and in the final best-of -five - mode.

National Champions and Euro League

The winner of the play-offs is the Serbian national champion in basketball and represents Serbia in the Euro League.
