Basòdino in Sunrise

The Basòdino ( German Basaldiner horn) is 3272.4 meters the highest mountain in the Ticino Alps. It lies on the border between the Ticino ( Switzerland ) and Piedmont ( Italy). The first recorded ascent was carried out on 3 September 1863 by a rope team under Peter Jossi ( leader ) and Zanini, Gaudenzio, Padovani Giacomo and Pietro Scuella from Airolo via the normal route.

The summit is a popular destination for mountain or ski tours of the Basodinohütte, the Cristallina hut and the Rifugio Maria Luisa. The normal route leads over the glacier, which extends in the north east of the summit, and along the East Ridge. Rise versions are available northwest with routes across the gap Kastel, the southern flank of the East Ridge and the Passo d' Antabia south of the main summit, the latter applies as difficult, and requires security cable is gone only rarely.
