The Basque Shepherd Dog Perro Pastor Vasco [' pero pas'toɾ ' βasko ] ( Spanish) or Euskal Artzain Txakurra [ eus'kal aɾ'tsain tʃa'kura ] (Basque ) is a shepherd dog breed from the Basque Country. The breed is not recognized by the FCI, but by the Spanish canine Company Real Sociedad Canina de España ( RSCE ), a member of the FCI.
Its relationship to the other "light" shepherd dogs of the Pyrenees is beyond dispute. How often in sheepdogs, regionally often somewhat different strokes have emerged. The hair texture of the dog goes from long and straight to rauhaarig, in shades of brown. There is an undercoat. The coat is completely weatherproof, what is also needed at the high altitudes of the Pyrenees.
