Bassett is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It is the county seat ( county seat ) of Rock County and was in the 2000 census, 743 inhabitants.
After the first settlers in 1878 settled in the region now known as Bassett, began in 1882 a more extensive occupation of the site, in the same year opened a first department store. 1883 the first school was established. On 8 February 1887, the site was officially registered with then about 40 residents as a community.
Bassett is located at the intersection of U.S. Highways 20 and 183; almost three kilometers west of the city lies the Rock County Airport. The place is home to three schools, including the Rock County High School.
