Bat-and-ball games

Possible origin

The thrower of the ball ( Pitcher, Bowler, servers, Pourer ) is their spy who elicits a courier. The batsman or runner represents a courier of the besieged, the provisions or assistance to fetch. If it is switched off by the field team, the besieged castle has to give: The field team moves into the castle one (and switch roles )!
