Bataireacht

Bataireacht ( Syn: Uisce Beatha Bata Rince, short form " Bata " ) ( Irish- Gaelic for stick fighting ) is, especially in the years 1750 to 1880 exercised in Ireland recreational sports, which was, however, later replaced by other sports.

It refers to the combat system of the Irish with the Shillelagh and is a historical European martial art that is still practiced today in a small scale. Bata includes but nowadays it is more than just pure fighting techniques with the cane Irish style, but also techniques of sword fighting, unarmed fighting techniques ( boxing, wrestling ) and the use of various wooden weapons (long stick, short stick, cane, stick, etc.). The American John W. Hurley and Ken Pfrenger deemed reconstructionists and expert on the subject and Shillelagh Bata and have held various seminars and written books about it.
