Batanagar

Batanagar ( Bengali: বাটানগর on German Bata City) is a factory town southwest of the city of Calcutta, West Bengal, millions in India.

Geography

Batanagar is located near the River Ganges in the district of South 24 Parganas of the state of West Bengal. It belongs administratively to the area of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. The nearest railway station is Nungi ( Nangi ) 23 kms south of Sealdah on the Sealdah leg - Budge Budge of the Indian Eastern Railway. The coordinates are 22 ° 17'N and 88 ° 07'E.

History

Batanagar in 1934 was founded by the then Czechoslovak Bata shoe company under the direction of Jan Antonin Bata and with the participation of 75 experts from Czechoslovakia. Following the example of the city of Zlín in Moravia, the founding place of the group, factory buildings and houses were built for the employees in the style of functionalism.

Economy

Today ( 2011) is the shoe factory manufacture the nucleus of hundreds of small and medium-sized enterprises, the boots are leather, PVC, jute and other materials. In addition, large and well known Indian footwear companies have settled here, the supply lots of work on the micro-enterprises in the city.
