Baten Kaitos Origins (Japaneseバテン·カイトスII始まり の 翼 と 神 々 の 嗣子Baten Kaitos II: Hajimari no Tsubasa to Kamigami no Shishi ) is a Japanese role-playing game. It is the sequel to the 2003 first published game Baten Kaitos: The wings of eternity and the Lost Ocean. Like its predecessor, also Origins was developed jointly by the two Japanese studios Monolith Soft and Tri- Crescendo. Nintendo brought it in Japan and North America in 2006 for the Nintendo GameCube out; in Europe, however, the game came not on the market.

Plot and gameplay

Although Baten Kaitos Origins is a successor, it is in regard to the action to a prequel, since this game 20 years before the events of the first Baten Kaitos. As protagonist of the plot Sagi acts from the Empire Alfard. Some well-known from the previous characters reappear, but are younger. The gameplay of its predecessor was largely taken over, as well as the cards and turn-based combat system that has been reworked in some places and simplified.

Development

Due to the great popularity of Baten Kaitos for the fans, the developers decided to develop a successor. Work on this continued for 18 months. About 50 developers contributed, with Monolith Soft was mainly responsible for the design and tri- Crescendo rather for programming and sound. Yasuyuki Honne held the role of Directors together with Hiroya Hatsushiba. Honne was also graphics director of the game and designed the cards while Hatsushiba programmed the sound. The plot of the game comes from the pen of Koh Kojima Motoi Sakuraba and composed the soundtrack. The producers of the game were Shinji Noguchi by Namco Bandai, Katsumi Miyazaki by Monolith Soft, Studio President Hirohide Sugiura and Nintendo president Satoru Iwata (executive producer).

Baten Kaitos Origins was unveiled by Japanese Famitsu in September 2005. Originally, the title should appear in Japan in December, but was postponed to 2006. Reception

He judged the game as graphically diverse and true to the original game. However, the unusual fighting principle make the game not suitable for everyone. Therefore, he could not give a general recommendation to buy the game.
