Bathrobe

A bathrobe, dressing gown or housecoat is a one-piece garment, which usually fluffy material, often terry -like fabric or silk after bathing or showering to receive the residual moisture. Bathrobes come in the private, domestic sphere and in public swimming pools and saunas for use.

The bathrobe is typically button and verschlusslos and is only held together by a tie belt.

Occasionally, the jacket features a fixed hood worked ( " hooded bathrobe "). There are models for both men, women and children offered. Many robes are more or less long and cover the knees and lower legs, but are available for women, rarely also for men, short robes, ending at the thighs and above the knees. In good hotels hotel's bathrobes are provided, they are, according to information provided by the hotels preferred " entrainment objects" of the guests.

History

Alfred Martin wrote in 1906 the book " German spa industry in recent days: in addition to a contributions to the history of German hydrotherapy. " In this book he cites, among other things, the Roudlieb ( sealed in 1030 ). Here the hero puts in a bathrobe on the bed until the heat soaked.

The Glotterthaler bathing rules mid-16th century ago wrote that the men have covered to get into the water. From 1880 it is known that women wore a kind of bathrobe at the beach on the way to the sea. This functioned mainly as a screen and consisted of beaver, flannel or frottierähnlichem fabric.

Since the 19th century this type of bathrobe was also adopted in the men's clothing. The cut, however, possible at the house coat.

The bathrobe in literature and pop culture

In the novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy carries one of the actors, Arthur Dent, constantly only a bathrobe. Playboy creator Hugh Hefner is another staunch Haus-/Bademantelträger.

A central role is the bathrobe in the TV show Dittsche - attributed to the really real life. In the movie The Big Lebowski by Jeff Bridges played the, Dude called protagonist also wearing a bathrobe. In the film Secret Window Johnny Depp of the preferred garment is a robe. The musician Udo Jürgens gives his encores traditionally in white bathrobe.
