Bathurst (New South Wales)

Bathurst is a city in the Australian state of New South Wales and is located about 200 km west of Sydney on the Macquarie River at about 670 m altitude.

Village

Bathurst was founded in 1815 and is the oldest located in the inland city of Australia. The city is one of the four main sites of the Charles Sturt University. Bathurst is also connected to the Mt Panorama Racing Circuit, the Australian Centre for touring car races.

Bathurst has a small airport and is located on an important main road to Sydney. In addition, the city can be reached by train on the route Sydney - Orange.

Bathurst is the center and the administrative seat of the Administrative Region Bathurst region.

Sister city is the Japanese city of Okuma since March 1991.

Wiradjuri Aboriginal

The area of Bathurst was originally the ancestral lands of the Wiradjuri Aboriginal people. They made against European colonization such fierce resistance that the Governor Major General Sir Thomas Brisbane declared martial law. These violent clashes went as Bathurst Wars in the Australian story. Admits became the leader of the Aboriginal Windradyne, who led the resistance in the 1820s.
