Batik is a project of the Apache Software Foundation to develop free software component for rendering ( rasterization ), the creation and manipulation of Scalable Vector Graphics ( SVG). This is developed in Java and is available across platforms as free software under the Apache Software License.
The project was initially supported by IBM and then the code of the Apache Software Foundation donated, then participated in other companies and developers (groups) in the development. For a long time it was the most complete SVG 1.1 implementation and as such was almost 94 % of the official SVG tests in version 1.7. ( Meanwhile, there is second just behind Opera. )
