Baton Rouge Kingfish

The Baton Rouge Kingfish were an American ice hockey team from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The team played from 1996 to 2003 in the East Coast Hockey League.

History

The Erie Panthers of the East Coast Hockey League in 1996 to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, relocated and renamed in Baton Rouge Kingfish. Following a vote among fans of the name Kingfish was elected on the basis of the previous Governor of Louisiana Huey Pierce Long, whose nickname was The Kingfish. Their most successful season graduated from the team in the 1998/99 season, in which they appear in the playoffs for the Kelly Cup first the Augusta Lynx beat after the sixth place in the Southwest Division in the regular season before it until the second round of the Pee Dee Pride subject. Subsequently, the Kingfish never get beyond the first playoff round.

A great rivalry existed to the counterparties located in the immediate vicinity of Louisiana IceGators to their sporting success and their popularity is, however, never came up. Therefore, the franchise has been withdrawn by its owners for the 2003/ 04 season on the game operation. After a year of inactivity, they finally settled the team in the Canadian Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, to where it participated from 2004 to 2011 under the name Victoria Salmon Kings game on operation of the ECHL.
