Battalgazi ( until 1988 Eskimalatya ) is a city and capital of the eponymous district in the Turkish province of Malatya. The county Battalgazi lies to the east of the province, bordering the province of Elazig. In the city Battalgazi 16792 people throughout the county and 29,509 people ( as of 2008).

Battalgazi is the second Malatya. Originally hethische Malatya ( Melid ) was burned in ancient times. Then the present Battalgazi Malatya was later re- established on the site. Therefore Battalgazi is also called Altmalatya. The city Battalgazi was named in 1988 after the Muslim hero Battal Ghazi.
