Battle Cry of Freedom

Battle Cry of Freedom (German: Battle Cry of Freedom) is authored by the American composer George Frederick Root during the American Civil War in 1862 song. The text version of the Northern states was used during the election campaign of 1864 of the Republican presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln as a campaign hit.

Originally intended for use by the union song was so popular that it was adapted for the Confederacy and thus sung and south of the Mason -Dixon Line.

Use in art

Film composer John Williams took a version of the song on the Symphony Choir of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for Steven Spielberg's film Lincoln. The song is sung by the Republican members of the House and some Democrats, after the 13th Amendment was adopted by a two -thirds majority.
