Battle of Elba

In the Battle of Elba in the First English- Dutch War met on 27 Augustjul. / September 6 1652greg. Ships of the United Provinces of the Netherlands on ships of the Commonwealth of England between Elba and Monte Cristo. In the United Kingdom it is also called Battle of Monte Christo.

Course

The English were eight ships under Richard Badiley to Livorno road, where six ships under Henry Appleton were. The Dutch under Johann van Galen attacked with ten ships and were able to conquer the English Phoenix. In the battle many Dutch captains were killed.

In November, two months later, under Captain Owen Cox took a night attack on the Phoenix, which was anchored as part of the Dutch fleet at Livorno and Appleton's squadron blocked. The British were able to recapture their former ship.
