Battle of Maychew

The Battle of May Ceu ( today, official name: Maychew ) was held on March 31, 1936 during the Italo-Ethiopian war in Ethiopia's Amhara region. Together with the Tembienschlachten she decided the war in favor of Italy. Ethiopia was part of the colony of Italian East Africa.

Course of the battle

On October 3, 1935 marched commander Emilio De Bono Ethiopia from Eritrea without a declaration of war.

After Pietro Badoglio had almost completely destroyed the Ethiopian associations in the second Tembienschlacht, launched the Negus and his Imperial Guard and remaining associations ( total 40,000 ) a last desperate attempt, but still stop the Italian invaders. However, of these plans, the Italian leadership learned. This, and especially because of the complete air supremacy ended this attempt at a complete Ethiopian defeat. On the withdrawal of the Ethiopian troops were attacked by Italian aircraft on Ashangisee with poison gas (April 4 ). Badoglio marched into Addis Ababa on 5 May 1936.
