The Battle of Montebello was the first battle of the Sardinian War.

Prehistory

The Second Italian War of Independence had broken out in 1859. The Italians had an alliance with France to fight against the Austrians.

At the battle of Montebello in Lombardy Italian of cavalry and infantry from France were involved. Were commanded by the Allies Élie -Frédéric Forey. On the opposing side was a 30,000- strong army of Austrians, that the inexperienced Philipp Franz Graf had, however, as commander of the stadium.
