Battle of Panipat (1761)

The Third Battle of Panipat was fought on January 14, 1761 between the Afghan Durrani under Ahmad Shah Durrani with 75,000 men and the Indian Marathenreich under Sadashivrab Bhau with 45,000 men in present-day Indian state of Haryana. The defeat of the Marathas paved the way for the British indirectly complete colonization of India, as the Marathas were weakened militarily. At the same place in 1526, the First Battle of Panipat and 1556, the Second Battle of Panipat took place.
