Battle of Shiroyama
The Battle of Shiroyama (Japanese城山 の 戦い, Shiroyama no tatakai ) took place on September 24, 1877 at Shiroyama hill near Kagoshima between an Imperial army and a few hundred rebellious Samurai place and marks the end of the Satsuma rebellion.
A few hundred samurai were compared with about 30,000 men. It ended with a victory for the imperial forces and the death of Saigo Takamori, the leader of the rebels. It was the last battle between traditional armed samurai and a modern equipped army.
Trivia
The battle at the end of the film The Last Samurai from 2003 is a reference to the Battle of Shiroyama.
