Battle of Tegyra
The Battle of Tegyra took place at 375 BCE in the village Tegyra in Boeotia, northeast of Orchomenus in Greece instead.
The 300 -strong Sacred Band of the supremacy of the Boeotian League, Thebes, an elite unit of state- maintained citizen soldiers struck here under their generals Pelopidas and of an equestrian unit supports a much larger Spartan force of two morai with about 600 to 1,000 heavily armed men the civil army.
The Theban unit formed a deep and narrow formation that smashed through the phalanx of Spartans and caused so the first defeat a numerically superior Spartan force under conditions of a battle.
