Battle of the Bridge of Arcole

The Battle of Arcole was from 15 to 17 November 1796 during the Italian campaign between the French under General Napoleon Bonaparte and the Austrians under Feldzeugmeister Joseph Alvinczy of Berberek at Arcole in Italy. After the retreat of General Moreau from the Rhine as a result of the Battle of Schliengen the Austrians appeared with about 48,000 men in Italy to relieve the trapped since September 13 in Mantua Field Marshal von Wurmser and to cross the river Adige.

To prevent this, Bonaparte marched with 24,000 men in front on the left bank of the Adige and on the right of the Alpon. The attack General Augereau on the Bridge of Arcole on November 15, 1796 failed, to the dams of the river developed into a battle. Bonaparte had to retreat to Ronco.

Also November 16 led to no other result, in the evening the position of the French was pretty questionable.
